Clearly the health-care bill makes the cost of employees higher. Major corporations are stepping forward to announce their anticipated increases in expenses. Some examples:
John Deere - $150 million
Caterpillar - $100 million
Steel maker AK Steele Holding Corp - $31 million
Valero Energy - $15 to $20 million
Because of these announcements Representative Henry Waxman, D-Los Angeles has his nose out of joint (snickering). After all, how is it these greedy executives have the temerity to cast dispersions on the president's legislative centerpiece? By gosh he's going to haul them up to the Hill for a good tongue lashing.
There's just one problem. Those companies are required to report those expenses. It's the law. Their CFO's could wind up in the gray-bar hotel alongside Bernie Madoff if they don't report expenditures that impact earnings.
One wonders if Henry Waxman gives a rat's ass about the people who have lost their jobs as a result of the utter and complete incompetence of our federal government. I'm guessing he hasn't lost any sleep over it.
