Meet Dr. Benjamin Carson. He is a renowned pediatric surgeon. In fact his story is so remarkable that a movie was made about his life:
From Amazon.com: Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (Actor in a Supporting Role, Jerry Maguire, 1996) stars in this true story about a renowned brain surgeon who overcame obstacles to change the course of medicine forever. Young Ben Carson didn’t have much of a chance. Growing up in a broken home amongst poverty and prejudice, his grades suffered and his temper flared. And yet, his mother never lost her faith in him. Insisting he follow the opportunities she never had, she helped to grow his imagination, intelligence and, most importantly, his belief in himself. That faith would be his gift – the thing that would drive him to follow his dream of becoming one of the world’s leading neurosurgeons.
Here's the speech that brought him to my attention and sparked my, "bromance."
It is my belief that when the history of our time is written, political correctness will be cast where it belongs on the scrapheap of incredibly destructive ideas. It is impossible to have a reasoned discussion of any thorny issue without wonks from every side trying to hang a destructive label on you. Dr. Carson systematically rips political correctness to shreds.
The other point he makes that I think is brilliantly insightful is his comparison of fiscal responsibility to tithing. If it works for God, just maybe it's a good solution for people. Sensible though it may be, it'll never come to pass. Sadly the Left in this country is far more concerned about punishing those who have than they are about helping those who have not.
Still I love listening to this guy talk. It's like Conservative porn...
