Speech Highlights: Obama Hits Republicans, Pledges to Find Votes for Energy
"Now, some of you may have noticed that we have been building this foundation without much help from our friends in the other party. From our efforts to rescue the economy, to health insurance reform, to financial reform, most have sat on the sidelines and shouted from the bleachers. They said no to tax cuts for small businesses; no to tax credits for college tuition; no to investments in clean energy. They said no to protecting patients from insurance companies and consumers from big banks."
That's a pant-load on a number of levels, but I'll point out two biggies.
First, the Republicans have offered plenty of ideas. One that I really like comes from Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. He calls it, "A roadmap for America's future." It isn't a secret. It's posted on the web for crying out loud. People all over are talking about it. The President may not like it because it is a Conservative approach, but it is blatantly inaccurate to suggest it isn't there.
Second, the President has had commanding majorities in both houses since he was inaugurated. He's been running on an open field for almost 2 years. He has had his way with the economy and look at it. We create 431,000 new jobs last month and 95% of them are temporary census workers. And even that number may be exaggerated if you believe this whistle blower.
The economy isn't getting better because the President's ideas all suck. Under his watch the debt is increasing at nearly 5 times the rate it was under Dubbya. And Dubbya was an obscene spender.
