Commenting on his decision not to stand for re-election he said,
"the American people needed to deliver a "shock" to Congress by voting incumbents out en masse and replacing them with people interested in reforming the process and governing for the good of the people, rather than deep-pocketed special-interest groups."
Pretty much everything else he said was bullshit. And his pals in the left-wing media are glad to help him misrepresent the facts. For example,
"Though the Democrats have had a substantial majority in the Senate for the last year, Republicans have escalated their threats to use filibusters to force Democrats to come up with 60 votes to pass any major legislation."
Up until a couple of weeks ago the Democrats had a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. And, if they had sent up anything even remotely reasonable with health care, they could have peeled off Republicans Olympia Snow and Susan Collins. In their greed they created such an abomination that they had to bribe Democrat senators from Nebraska and New Orleans.
Let me be clear--I am not defending Republicans. They had their chance to take the high road and they blew it. Now the Democrats are blowing it big time and they need to take the heat for it. Bayh isn't being noble. He's a coward that would rather resign than get beat in the next election.
The American people are pissed. The election of a Conservative Republican in Ted Kennedy's old seat is only one manifestation of that anger. People of my acquaintance who ordinarily take no interest in politics are fuming over what is happening in Washington. They are stocking up on food and ammunition. Sales of books like, "The 5000 year leap," and, "A Patriot's History of the United States," are among the hottest titles on Amazon.
On one hand this civic reawakening is a very good sign, but on the other hand it frightens me. The elites inside the Beltway are on a collision course with the American people. My sense of it is that things could very easily get ugly.
